The Yale Babylonian Collection is closely allied with the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. It is the largest collection of documents, seals, and other artifacts from ancient Mesopotamia in the United States and one of the leading collections in the world. The Collection has its own classroom, where the department’s courses in Assyriology are carried on, and where students have a unique opportunity to work regularly with primary source material. It also includes a complete reference library of over 13,000 books and serials and over 10,000 offprints. Graduate students in Assyriology may be assigned individual workspace in the library. As much of the Collection remains to be published, graduate students are encouraged to include texts or objects from the Collection in their dissertations or post-doctoral research.
